A Special Birthday…

Posted on

Okay, so if you don’t know, Oreo cookies had their 100th Birthday today. I love those cookies, they are the only ones that I dip in milk…honest! I even found a recipe that I can’t wait to try. I promise to get back to my recipe try outs soon…

Well, besides being Oreo’s one hundred birthday, this is also a birthday for me. You see, exactly one year ago I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. This may seem strange to some since I was a religious person all my life. I led Bible Studies, taught Vacation Bibles Schools and Children’s Conferences all around the Houston area. I obeyed my parents (most of the time…like any good teen would admit) and I also keep my reputation in tact where boys were concerned. Yep, I was a pretty good girl. My church members loved me and said a loud Amen every time I sang at church. Yet, inside of me I always had a doubt about my salvation. Was I counting on what Christ did on the cross or my good works to get me to heaven??

I knew about God, after all I was raised in a Bible believing, soul winning, sin hating, KJV ONLY, Baptist Church all my life. I knew chapters of the Bible by heart and could tell you pretty much all the main bible stories in the Bible. Yet, something seemed to be missing. So, a little over a year ago I decided to ask God what was the deal. Why was I feeling the way I did? Why did I have a fear of death??

So, God decided to send the Holy Spirit to have a chat in my heart and like all of His conversations, He never yells the answer to you…He spoke in a still and quite voice and decided to lead me to His Word the Bible. Matthew 7 verse 21-23 would be the ones that opened my eyes….

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. – Matthew 7:21-23

These were the same verses that my pastor used the next Sunday in His sermon. Talk about getting a wake up call from God! I knew that sermon was put on my pastor’s heart just for me to realize my hearts condition. No…I’m not being prideful, I just know that I have a Heavenly Father that loves ME enough to do anything to bring me to Him.

And you want to know the funny thing, I have never had such a worse year in my life. I have disobeyed, had financial difficulties, had to leave an organization that I loved being a part of, been rejected by someone I cared for, and had to go through the normal trials of life! Yep, all that has happened in a year! Yet I know that I have never had more peace and comfort through those times and I knew it was because Christ is living inside of me. I’m not perfect by any means, that is not what salvation is about. I do however have a Joy and Love in my heart that I never had before.

So this is why I have written this post, to think back on what God has done in one year, I hope this post is to encourage you to a deeper relationship with God. My story is my own and everyone has their own…to paraphrase C.S.Lewis 🙂

If this post has caused you to think about your own salvation please let me know. God wants everyone to become His children and John 3:16-17 says it so well…

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

And whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved! By believing in your heart that Jesus is the only way to be saved from your sins and the only way to conquer the fear of death. He wants to save us because He loves us more than you can ever imagine, and willing to do anything to have us become His. I know that is true in my life.

I hope you have a great week, and remember God loves you so much…no matter who you are or what you do:)
