What I learned this summer

Posted on

I thought that I had posted this when it happened, but I guess I left it in the draft file. This happened in June, but for some reason I am still learning from this experience…

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: Hebrews 12:14

In the last few days, I have had the opportunity to try to live out that verse. Last Saturday, my family received a call that my grandfather was in the hospital in Arizona.

It was a good trip, but being in the car for 20hrs and not knowing what was going to happen once we got there added some tension to the situation. I wish I could say that I was the perfect example of this verse, but that would be a lie. I did however learn the message behind this verse….

We are called to peacemakers in this not peaceful world. We are also called to be holy(separate), not doing the evil that the rest of the world is doing. However, looking at the verse, I realized that some people see this as an impossible task. How can we be peaceable, yet not agreeing to be or do what everyone else is doing??

The answer is found by looking at this verse at a different angle…..

The verse says pursue peace and holiness. So, if you have too much peace, you will be willing to go with the crowd just for the sake of “peace”. If you go to far to the right, and have a “holier then thou” mentality, you will drive everyone away from you. I believe that the healthy balance of both is the only way you can live.

When a person is in the right relationship with the Lord, they will have both peace and holiness. This may seem like an impossible task, but with God’s help…anything is possible.

Well, things have been so busy that I have not been able to write like I wanted to. I’m still cooking, still playing music, but have not found the time to share with everyone. Well, this time I have to post. I will be going out of the country on my first foreign mission trip. I get to post the week before I go, and when I come back. I will be attaching the web address to this new site as soon as its up and running.

Thank goodness for WordPress!!!

I need to be more disciplined. I have some great ideas to post, but just not enough hours in the day to do it. To be more honest, my brain cells are not what they used to be. My sister says it is because I’m 21 now. “Everything is down hill” to quote her. Well, I was loosing my memory before I turned 21.

21 years old….my my, how time is flying by. All I can say is…Great is Thy Faithfulness.

Today I had the chance to live out that wonderful hymn. Will have to write about it this week. I promise, Lord willing I will:)

Chicken with Salsa Verde

Okay, so if none of you know the amazing flavors that are in this dish, you are missing out on pure awesomeness!!!!

Normally, I do not post about a recipe until I try it. This is my one exception. I know that it will taste amazing!!!!

This recipe came as an email. I am a subscriber of Bon Appetit and love their ideas. This recipe is easy to do, don’t worry about tomatillos, they make look strange but they have great potential!

I am seasoning my chicken before I cook it and all I used was garlic and onion powder, cumin, and dried cilantro. I will add kosher salt right before I put it in the pan.

I hope you enjoy this…I know you will:)
